Creating a Space of Love for your family and Kin is an important stage in life that most often is a 180 degrees turn. It is not easy to embark on such a big task, and many difficulties await along the way. So where to start?
1. Inspiration in the books
Most residents of the kin's settlements start by reading the books of the Ringing Cedars. There you can find many ideas for a more conscious life and guidance in taking responsibility for your life and the world around you.
2. Search for a place
«First, choose from all the possible favorable places on Earth your own. Choose the place you like» (Anastasia).
Having studied hundreds of stories of kin's domains, we know for sure that sometimes finding a suitable place takes much more time than building a house, creating infrastructure, and growing a garden. Many residents of kin's settlements have spent years trying to find the place where they are ready to live the rest of their lives. In the end, it is this beautiful domain that you will pass on to your children and grandchildren! Take the time to search and stop searching only when you feel: «this is my HOME!».
3. Paperwork
This step requires patience: different countries and regions have different requirements for buildings. There are different rules in the settlements of kin's domains. Before you start planning your domain, check: what kind of fence can you build? At what distance from the boundary of the plot can trees be planted? Do you need to keep any distance from the plot to public roads and paths?
If you join an existing kin's settlement, the new neighbors will gladly provide you with all the information before you have time to ask. When buying a plot in an ordinary settlement, you have to find out everything on your own.
4. Preparation for planning
First you need to carefully study your domain in all seasons of the year. Determine the prevailing wind directions, be sure to note how spring water flows through the plot. If there are trees, then notice how the shadow falls from them. Imagine that they will be much higher, and roughly draw the shadow of a large tree on your plan. All your observations must be applied to the project. They will be very useful to you in further landscape planning.
5. Create a plot project
The plot project can simply be drawn on a sheet, preferably A1-A0 format. First, draw the boundaries of your domain on a convenient scale, for example, a 1x1 meter square, denoting a plot measuring 100 by 100 meters, 100 * 100 m = 1 ha. That is, 1 centimeter of the plan is equal 1 meter on the ground. Place future plantings and buildings on the plan: a green fence around the perimeter, a grove, a vegetable garden, a playground, a house, a bathhouse, a pond, and a place for animals… Planning is a very crucial moment. All your plans must be checked on the ground, that is, presented standing on your plot. You can use a landscape design computer program, but this is not necessary at all.
6. Purchase of seedlings
Now that you know exactly what you want to see on your kin's domain, it's time to prepare everything for the future garden. Experienced settlers advise putting this stage before the stage of building a house. Trees and shrubs do not grow quickly, and the sooner you plant them, the sooner you can enjoy the view of green crowns.
After that, you can start landscaping and building a house. We will cover these steps in detail in future newsletters.
